Our Services

We provide essential Islamic services to the community of Salisbury and surrounding areas.

Bereavement & Burial Services

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.
"Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."

Immediate Action

In the event of a death in the community, please contact the Masjid directly without delay. Our Imam and support team will guide your family compassionately through the formal and religious procedures.

Administrative Support

We ease the administrative burden on grieving families by providing step-by-step guidance to ensure everything rests legally:

  • 1
    Obtaining the official death certificate
  • 2
    Securing essential burial release forms
  • 3
    Purchasing a grave plot locally
  • 4
Formally registering the death with local authorities

Partnerships & Facilities

We currently work in close partnership with Madinah Mosque in Southampton, who graciously assist us with mortuary storage, hearse services, and facilities for the ritual washing (Ghusl) of the deceased.

Our Future Vision

We are actively gathering funds and finalizing plans to construct a dedicated Ghusl facility and mortuary directly on our site in Salisbury, ending the burden of traveling 24 miles during difficult times.

Eco-Friendly Burial Method

We conduct all burials at a dedicated Muslim burial plot situated within The Avenue Cemetery, ensuring the resting place is fully respected and adheres tightly to Islamic sunnah.

Our carefully considered burial process is highly eco-friendly:

  • We thoughtfully construct an untreated timber box for the burial. This completely natural approach avoids introducing any harmful chemicals or unnatural varnishes to the earth.
  • Sturdy wooden slats are then respectfully placed directly over this box.
  • This critical final step guarantees that soil does not arbitrarily enter the grave once the burial plot is covered, preserving the sanctity of the deceased.

Volunteer Appeal

Supporting grieving families is a solemn communal obligation (Fard Kifayah). We are always looking for compassionate, mature individuals willing to volunteer their time to assist during community bereavements. We welcome volunteers of all genders, and appropriate arrangements will be made as needed to ensure every family is supported with dignity.

Islamic Marriage (Nikah)

"And among His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy."

— Qur'an 30:21

Performed in Accordance with Shariah

A Nikah — a marriage contract according to Islamic (Shariah) Law — may be performed at Salisbury Central Masjid. The ceremony will be conducted by one of our Imams.

When booking a date, it is helpful to specify the number of guests attending. All those attending are kindly requested to observe Islamic tradition in their dress, in keeping with Islamic values. The management reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone who does not comply with this request.

Booking Requirements

Identity & Attendance

  • Valid current passport (including visa for non-British passport holders) for both the groom and the bride.
  • Proof of residential address, UK or abroad (otherwise the address given on the booking form will be recorded on the certificate).
  • Conversion certificate for new Muslims (groom or bride).
  • Presence of two Muslim male witnesses, with valid ID.
  • Presence of the Wali — the bride's father, brother, or next responsible male kin.

Documents & Fee

  • Written declaration of the agreed dowry (Mahr), signed by both the bride and groom.
  • If the bride has previously been married, an Islamic divorce certificate is required.
  • A fee of £100 (or whatever you can afford — all proceeds go to the Masjid fund), payable before the ceremony.

Please note: the groom, bride, her Wali and the two Muslim male witnesses should attend the ceremony in person. Otherwise, the registrar or the Imam must be informed of any issue at the time of submitting the application.

Certificates & Language

Ceremonies are usually conducted in English, Arabic, or Bangla, with certificates issued in English. The Masjid will issue two original certificates (one for each spouse) at the end of the Nikah ceremony — please keep these in a safe place for future reference. The Masjid will not issue further original copies, but can provide certified copies for a small charge.

Important Notice

An Islamic marriage (Nikah) is not recognised as a legal marriage in the UK.

Islamic marriages conducted in the UK are not recognised under the laws of England and Wales. Salisbury Central Masjid strongly recommends and encourages all Muslim couples who have had, or are planning to have, a Nikah in the UK to also conduct a civil marriage at their local Registry Office, so that their marriage is legally recognised and they are afforded the rights and protections of English civil law.
